IGATE Interested In Buying Satyam Computers, Phaneesh Murthy Says

Satyam Computers have found its first bidder. iGATE Corp., a US based company which specializes in outsourcing solutions has shown its interest in burying the ailing IT major. Phaneesh Murthy, CEO of iGate says his company will buy Satyam if board of directors decide to sell.

Phaneesh is the same former employee of Infosys who had to left his job after a former executive assistant Reka Maximovitch filed a case against him on accounts of sexual harrassment. The case was settled out of court.

Recently, it was revealed that Satyam had shown its employee count more than actual. Satyam showed 53,000 employees when in actual there are 40,000 employees. This way, 20 crores monthly were diverted by Satyam in the name of employees who were not there.

Marad Beach Carnage Case : 62 Convicted Get Life Sentence

A special of Kozhikode has sentenced 62 convicts of Marad carnage case to life. One more was sentenced to the improsinment of five years. On May 2, 2003 nine fishermen were britally murdered by a crowd of assailants. Additional Sessions Judge Babu Mathew P Joseph pronounced the sentence. Though police had arrested 139 people, 76 were acquitted earlier due to lack of evidence.

Satyam Requires 150 Crore While Government Rules Out Bailout

Ram Mynapati of says Satyam needs around 150 crore to tackle insurance liabilities of its employees. On the other hand Government has specifically ruled out any possibility of bailing out the ailing IT major.

Economic affairs secretary Ashok Chawla disclosed , "We have received a mail or two from Mynampati. They indicated that they would need something of the order of Rs 150 crore to take care of the health insurance liabilities of the employees in the US."

Although, earlier government had showed its interest in extending financial aid to Satyam Computers. But looking at the financial spaghetti in the company's books, it is not feasible to bail out Satyam.

The Indian wing of Italian auto maker Fiat India has launched the hyped car Linea. The mid-sized car comes with both diesel and petrol versions. Fiat Linea is priced at 5.98 lakhs.

Fiat India CEO Rajeev Kapoor, "Fiat has kept its promise of making this an exciting year for its customers. The launch of the Linea is the first in the line of three launches that Fiat will undertake this year, the other two being Bravo and Grande Punto."

One person was killed and four injured in a helicopter crash in Texas. The Black Hawk helicopter carrying 5 passengers crashed all of a sudden on A&M University campus. All the five persons were taken to college station medical center where one person passed away . The verdict of the close monitored Thirumangalam Assembly by-polls is out and public voted in favor of ruling party DMK. DMK candidate Latha Adhiyaman got a lead of more than 39,000 votes against her closest rival M. Muthuramalingam of the AIADMK. Thirumangalam constituency polls conducted on Friday saw a phenomenal voter turnout of around 88%.

Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi could not be happier. He said, "The victory is the people's endorsement of my government's pro-people policies... I do not wish to comment about (any other party or parties') non-participation."

Wipro And Megasoft Next To Be Barred From World Bank

In another blow to Indian IT image, World Bank barred India's third largest software company Wipro Ltd. from receiving Bank contracts. Earlier World Bank banned Satyam Computers for eight years. World Bank has published the name of institutions who are barred from doing business with it. Wipro has been barred for four years along with Megasoft Consultants Ltd. Although, Wipro says it won't be affected much as only a small percentage of its business comes from the institution. Wipro has been banned against same charges as Satyam.

The ban became effective in June 2007 but the company has disclosed it now. Satyam Computers was barred for "improper benefits to bank staff" and "lack of documentation on invoices.” World bank said it had banned yet another firm India's Megasoft Consultants for four years in December 2007 for "participating in a joint venture with Bank staff while conducting business with the Bank".

Government Appoints Three Persons On Board

Government has finally appointed the three persons on the board of ailing Satyam Computers. The HDFC chairman Deepak Parekh, former NASSCOM chief Kiran Karnik and C. Achuthan are the chosen one and now expectations are high from these people to rescue the IT major. Moreover, the fate of some 53,000 employees too rest with these newly appointed directors.

The first thing that is to be done is to appoint the remaining seven directors on the board. The new board will continue to work till next notice by the government. The Satyam Computers is facing the leadership crisis since the revelation of scam which involved depiting fake profits and forgery. Satyam former chairman Ramalinga Raju has been arrested.

Kiran Karnik said, “We are trying to ensure that India continues to be safe, secure and reliable destination for IT services.”

Corporate Affairs Minister Prem Chand Gupta Said, “The board’s first priority will clearly be to restore the company’s credibility, customer confidence and employee morale, as also to safeguard the interests of investors and other stakeholders. I am confident these persons will be able to give the kind of leadership to the company which is required.”
